Last night just past midnight I glanced at my phone on the way to bed. Somebody in my feed posted something like "we don't have time to digest one before another one comes..." and my heart sank. Days after a mass shooting in Colorado that killed five, here was another. In Virginia. This time at a Walmart store. Six more dead. It never ends.

Details will eventually emerge. Why type of gun was used. Where it came from. How it was all nice and legal like because 'Murica. We'll hear of the warning signs that were missed and the loopholes he (it’s always a he) was able to exploit. We'll soon know what the shooter's political affiliation was, and how he spent his time on social media. Whatever. And then somebody will mop up the blood that has congealed on the floor, and the store will re-open. It's the busy season after all. And Walmart does have the lowest prices.
