This is another entry in my ongoing “songs that visited me and decided they wanted to stay” series. I hope you like these enough to become a paid subscriber, because I really need you to keep this project going.

Thirteen - Big Star

Won't you let me walk you home from school?
Won't you let me meet you at the pool?
Maybe Friday I can get tickets for the dance
And I'll take you…..

That age. We were teetering on the edge of something that we didn’t understand. For the first time, angst became something to be dealt with. What had always been simple would never be so simple again. There were new dangers everywhere, but they could also be thrilling. That was the difference. The jolt. Our senses were heightened. The hair had to be just right. The clothes had to be just right. The zits needed to be slathered in zit cream. The simple touch of a girl’s hand could sustain you for days. The right song could send you into outer space. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.
