This is another entry in my ongoing “songs that visited me and decided they wanted to stay” series. I hope you like these enough to become a paid subscriber, because I really need you to keep this series going…

Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits

I can't do the talks like they talk on the TV
And I can't do a love song like the way it's meant to be
I can't do everything but I'll do anything for you
I can't do anything except be in love with you

Even if you are not prone to sappy-ness (like I am) this song is gonna drill you right in the feels. Everything about it, from it’s gorgeous intro and melody driven by an open-tuned National Style "O" guitar, to Mark Knopfler’s understated vocal, is gonna put love back on the table, even if you stopped believing love was possible. Somebody recently asked me what my favorite love song of all time was and I answered Romeo and Juliet so quickly that I almost surprised myself. It was on the tip of my tongue and I didn’t even know it. I sing it to myself all the time. I pluck it on the guitar all the time. If it comes on in public, anywhere, there is always somebody I overhear saying something like “oh maaaan…..I LOVE this song…..” I don’t think it’s possible to love this song and be a shitty person. I think this song can turn water into wine.
