On the road again...
Gonna be away for a few days, so I probably won’t make my three column a week quota for the first time since I started this thing in 2020. I feel kinda bad about this, which is why I’m sitting here right now trying to nail this one down before heading off. At least I can get two pieces in.
And next week my Irish Catholic guilt will force me to write four. So it’s all gonna average out. You’ll see.
I really haven’t gone anywhere since the pandemic struck, so it feels weird packing a bag and trying to remember what TSA is going to confiscate when I go through airport security. I assume we’re still doing the shoe thing? And the liquid thing? Do we still use that color-coded terror warning thing? That was a joy.
I usually traveled by myself back then…..and my bemusement at the world around me was often taken for something sinister. With my dark hair and dark eyes and no partner I was constantly being pulled aside for “extra screening”, which meant everybody assumed I had a bomb in my bag. If I must say, I handled it all with zero complaint, mostly because the only people with less of a sense of humor than TSA agents are secret service agents.
