"My walks clear my head, and re-fill it with wonder..."
I went for a long walk last night after work, which means I walked in the dark. I know about this daylight savings thing and everything, but I can't remember it being so deeply dark so early. Feels like the sun is setting during lunch.
I like to write about walking. Oblige me?
I like it. It gives me cover. It's a great time for a long think.
Peering ahead at the weather, last night looked like the last hurrah of this crazy good November stretch. Temps scratching into the 70s. This weekend promises inches of rain, and then temps plummeting 30 degrees, which is normal for November but ain't gonna feel that way. But last night was glorious. A light breeze. Stars acting like street lamps. Usually I'll put on a pair of sweats and some sneakers, but I decided to trek the streets in my Doc Martens and jeans instead. I was in no hurry. Up and down side streets I went. It was so quiet. Almost pandemic era quiet. People were settled in for the night. TVs glowing in front rooms. What are they watching at 6pm? It used to be the news that folks watched in the early evenings. Does anybody watch the actual network news anymore? TV is mostly background noise this early, something to go with your phone-scrolling. Cronkite is long gone, replaced by….well….nothing.
