Thoughts on gigs. But backwards.

Driving home from a duo gig on Friday night I passed at least 3 houses that still had their Christmas decorations burning. This made what had already been a good night (some gigs are good…some are meh) an even better one. There is something admirable about this sort of post-holiday stubbornness. Discard all the rules of the game. Live by your own clock. Houses clearly look BETTER all lit up like this. Festive. Fun. Where is it written down that come early January or whatever….that you have to conform? It’s clearly not simple laziness either. If that was the case, you wouldn’t bother to turn the lights on in the first place. No, this is a wonderful f-off to convention. These are MY people. I felt like stopping, pulling out my guitar, and singing a few Christmas Carols on their porches. But that might have been weird.
