Bits and Pieces
In all my years being involved in the music/theater business, one of the few things I’ve really come to understand is that “tickets are going fast” means nobody is buying any tickets, and “back by popular demand” means that you were the only one they could get on short notice. The rest is sort of trial and error. The weak link of most bands is the vocals, and the weak link to most plays is the director acting like he’s making a theatrical version of Apocalypse Now. Also, tribute bands are the low-hanging fruit of the industry, the rock and roll version of community theater groups doing The Sound of Music and The Odd Couple every season. But then again, both rock and roll and live theater have been “dying” since before I was born, so what the hell do I know? Original music? Original plays? How do you compete with “Sweet Home Alabama” and throwing a plate of spaghetti against the wall?
