What I’ve noticed more than anything is that people are really scared. There seems to be multiple levels of doom floating around in the ether, and nobody is quite sure if they should duck and cover, or just stand up and start flailing away at it, like a shadow boxer. We used to take certain things for granted. As fucked up and divided as this place has always been, we’ve always had the thin red line of laws and judges and cops who didn’t walk around wearing masks so their neighbors wouldn’t know it was them acting like they just broke into the Stanford Prison Experiment with a case of Miller Lite cans under their belts. Shit might hover close to the edge, but there was always that last guardrail to keep us from falling and dying on the rocks.

That seems gone now.
